Design and architecture play an important role in the evolution and progress of a city’s cultural identity, and the city’s mayor helps create a vision. With Pittsburgh’s 2021 mayoral race coming up, PLP partnered with local advocacy group Design for Pittsburgh on the inaugural Mayoral Design Forum, which asks the four mayoral candidates their positions on issues related to affordable housing, creating equitable and empowered communities through community engagement, sustainability, and historic preservation.

The effort was spearheaded by designer Bruce Chan and PLP's own spring 2021 intern Kami Beckford, who gathered input from a coalition of designers, advocates, and community members to develop the list of questions. The goal was to gain a better understanding of each candidate’s beliefs, policies, and vision for the future of design, architecture, planning, and development of Pittsburgh.
