Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture
EX-CHANGE is the first publication celebrating student work at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture (SoA). PLP’s Sarah Rafson organized EX-CHANGE as the 2017-18 Anna Kalla Professor in Architecture.
Rafson oversaw all production of the publication, working with both faculty and students in what promises to be a new tradition at the school. The inaugural release of EX-CHANGE in spring 2018 followed an end-of-year exhibition, celebration and discussion based on SoA student work the previous semester. The booklet highlights studio work alongside excerpts from moderated conversations between students and architecture critics based on questions of how the work and research developed at the SoA relates to broader thought in academia and practice. In tandem, the EX-CHANGE publication and exhibition work to shine new light on the SoA’s curricula and position the school’s work within broader trends and movements.
The booklet includes:
- Images of student work
- Interviews with Aaron Betsky and Trey Trahan
- Photos of from 2017 EX-CHANGE
- Reflections by students and faculty
